Spring rafting for the adventurous
May 30, 2011
Yesterday, I went rafting with Hokkaido Lion Adventures.
The Shiribetsu River, one of the most dramatic rivers in Japan, offers a number of activities you can enjoy throughout the year, and spring rafting is the most thrilling experience of all .
While summer rafting trips usually travel approximately 8 km down the rolling terrain near the base of Mt. Yotei over about an hour and a half, spring rafting will send you down a raging torrent on a rocky route that descends more than 1.5 times the distance in the same duration.
Look at the water! You will hardly get wet with nice dry suits and shoes, but you’ll certainly get tossed about by the rolling water.
If you’re lucky, there may be time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and colored foliage or find some wild veggies by the side of the river.
What makes spring rafting special is that you will need to go all out, paddling throughout the tour! I’d advise you to use your abs and back as well as your arm muscles.
It may be a bit cool at this time of year, but you’ll work hard enough to sweat in the process. If you love sports or being outside, make sure to try spring rafting!
Hokkaido Lion Adventures offers some time for diving and surfing to enjoy the river. You’ll have to experience the thrill to realize how much fun it is!

The tour ends under the Niseko-Ohashi, a large, yellow bridge in Niseko Town. Your crew may have just met that morning, but by the end of the day you’ll be a fantastic team.
See you again for summer rafting!
