The Scenic Night 2011 in Niseko Kiranoyu Onsen

Snow chapel 2011

The Scenic Night arrived in Niseko last weekend.

A lovely snow chapel appeared in the parking lot of Niseko Kiranoyu Onsen, and there was an actual wedding ceremony.

The bride is Erika from Sapporo and the groom is Ryo from Kyowa-town.They lightened the candle hand in hand, and smiled on the heart-shaped snow stage fringed with candles.

They will set up a new family in Kyowa from this time.

Congratulations and best wishes, Erika and Ryo! You’ve made my day!

Spring weather and Scenic Night

We’ve enjoyed peaceful spring-like weather for these couple of weeks as a nice break in the 6month-long snowy winter for a change.

With a few new snow last night and the mild temperature, we can enjoy moist and soft powder this morning. It may seem a bit difficult to ski with such snow conditions at first.Just relax and jump on your skis, then you’ll get new fun different from skiing in deep dry powders!

By the way, I went to Otaru to see “Yuki-Akari-no-Michi” event last weekend. It was a really lovely event with lots of snow stuatues and candles throughout the town.

If you missed the event, don’t worry. We have a similar candle event this weekend in Niseko, the Scenic Night 2011!

The day centre,HAMAZONO 308

Today I’d introduce one of the mountain restaurants for a change.
Hanazono 308 is the day centre of Niseko HANAZONO Resort.
Its name is derived from where it is, at an elevation of 308 meters, which means just 1000 meters to the top of Mt. Annupuri (the 1,308-metre peak).

The ambassador for the resort is this popular “Kamonohashi-kun”. Yes, he is a Tasmanian platypus, a distinct mammal unique to Australia.
You can get the story about why he came to drift to Niseko in their website.

The winter hours is from 8:30am to 5pm. They will serve the famous Kani Ramen (local style noodles with crab), pizzas, chicken curry, chips and burgers at a reasonable price.

For a break from alpine adventures, treat yourself to a Lavazza coffee and muffin from the 308 Café, or share the HANAZONO specialty of 3-litre tower of beer with your friends and families!

Free shuttles will be running guests from Hirafu village to Hanazono 308. They will operate every 20 minutes.

It keeps just snowing and snowing…. We have the record snowfall yesterday, which is 70cm for the last 24hrs.There was little snowing last week, and then everyone longed for powder. HERE YOU ARE!

During those fine weekdays, Argentine and Spanish TV crews stayed in Niseko. They are 4 professional snowboarders, including a former Olympic athlete for the 1998 Nagano and the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, and 2 TV staffs.
